Pháp quyền là chủ đề đã có nhiều công trình nghiên cứu, song vẫn cần làm rõ hơn tính chất và sự biểu hiện của nó ở Việt Nam. Bài viết phân tích khái niệm, những đặc trưng của pháp quyền và lịch sử phát triển của tư tưởng pháp quyền ở Việt Nam. Các tác giả chứng minh pháp quyền là một giá trị phổ quát của nhân loại và không phải là một phạm trù hoàn toàn mới mẻ ở Việt Nam, tuy nhiên, khái niệm này được hiểu và áp dụng ít nhiều khác nhau trong các giai đoạn của lịch sử Việt Nam hiện đại. Theo đó, pháp quyền được chính thức xác định là mục tiêu quan trọng gắn với sự phát triển của đất nước thông qua chủ trương của Đảng về tiếp tục xây dựng Nhà nước pháp quyền xã hội chủ nghĩa của Nhân dân, do Nhân dân, vì Nhân dân, do Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam lãnh đạo.
